(1) Where the rent in respect of any holding is payable otherwise than in cash, the Assistant Collector may, of his own motion or on the application of the 1[Gram Panchayat] or the person by or to whom the rent is payable, commute the rent in the manner prescribed.
(2) The rent commuted under sub-section (1) shall be payable from the first day of July following the date of the order of commutation unless the order provides for some other date.
